About Coffee in Lisbon

We started Coffee in Lisbon in 2022 for a simple reason: the writing we wanted to read about neighbourhoods, cafés & coffee, eating mostly did not exist, and what did exist was selling something.

Our house style is affectionate, specific, tired of the same six recommendations. We would rather publish one piece that holds up than five that fill a schedule.

What we cover

The site is organised into 6 sections:

• Neighbourhoods — What each part of the city is actually like to walk around and stay in.
• Cafés & Coffee — How coffee works here, what to order, and where to sit for an hour.
• Eating — Tascas, markets, pastry and the meals worth planning a day around.
• Day Trips — Sintra, the coast, the river and how to reach them without a car.
• Practicalities — Transport, hills, tickets, timings and what catches visitors out.
• Living There — Longer stays, admin, seasons and the city underneath the tourism.

Who writes it

Every article carries a named writer with a profile page, and nothing is published anonymously. You can see the full list on our writers page.

How it is funded

We are advertising-funded and independently owned. No advertiser sees an article before publication, and none has ever been offered the chance. See the editorial policy.
